Position Summary
The Head of Retail Risk Management is responsible for establishing, leading, and continuously enhancing the bank’s Retail Risk framework in alignment with Bangladesh Bank’s Risk Management Guidelines (2018).
The role ensures that all retail lending, cards, consumer asset products, agent banking retail exposure, and digital-originated portfolios are managed within the bank’s Risk Appetite, Risk Tolerance, and Regulatory Limits, while supporting profitable and sustainable growth.
The incumbent works closely with the CRO and senior management to ensure robust identification, measurement, monitoring, and mitigation of credit, operational, market, and liquidity risks arising from the retail banking portfolio.
Key Responsibilities
11. Retail Credit Risk Management
· Lead the design, review, and implementation of Retail Credit Risk Policies, product programs, credit approval matrices, and risk acceptance criteria in line with BB regulations.
· Set and monitor Retail Risk Appetite, tolerances, and limits covering:
· Retail disbursement growth
· Product-wise and geographical concentration
· NPL and SMA ratios
· Early Delinquency (30+ DPD), Vintage Curves
· Write-off policies
· Unsecured vs secured portfolio mix
· Oversee credit decisioning quality across retail lending, ensuring adherence to internal risk thresholds.
· Ensure proper functioning of independent retail credit reviews and periodic portfolio diagnostics.
2. Portfolio Monitoring & Early Warnin
- Establish a comprehensive Retail Portfolio Monitoring Framework focusing on:
- Segment-wise delinquency trends
- Behavioral scorecards / LMS performance
- Collection efficiency
- Roll-rate analysis
- LGD/PD modelling
- Chair or participate as a key member of the Retail Credit Policy Committee, Retail Collection Committee, and ERMC meetings.
- Identify “Critical Retail Risks” and escalate to CRO, ERMC, and BRMC with actionable recommendations.
- Drive early-warning triggers using KRIs, MIS, Stress Testing results, and economic indicators.
3. Digital & Agent Banking Risk Oversight
-Oversee retail credit risks arising from digital lending, mobile app originations, buy-now-pay-later (BNPL), and collaboration with fintech partners.
-Ensure controls over e-KYC, real-time decisioning, API integrations, fraud risks, and cybersecurity related to digital retail products.
-Strengthen risk practices for agent banking to manage operational lapses, identity risks, and documentation quality.
4. Operational Risk Management – Retail
-Identify operational vulnerabilities across the retail value chain: sourcing, verification, underwriting, disbursement, collections, and recovery.
- Work closely with ICC, IT, and Operations on fraud/forgery mitigation, system failures, process gaps, and consumer disputes.
-Lead root-cause analyses for retail losses and implement preventive actions across channels.
5. Policy Development & Regulatory Compliance

-Prepare and contribute to BB’s reporting requirements such as:
-CRMR/MRMR

-Risk Appetite Statements (RAS)
-BRMC/ERMC minutes
-Lead annual policy reviews and interim updates in response to market changes.
6. Stress Testing & Capital Impact Analysis
· - Conduct retail-segment-specific stress tests (interest rate, economic downturn, unemployment shock
- Assess impact on capital, NPL formation, and RWA under ICAAP.
- Recommend changes in risk appetite, pricing, product structure, and underwriting.
7. Leadership & Culture
· - Build a strong retail risk culture across frontline teams through training, communication, and guidelines.
- Provide expert advice to business heads on new product approvals, risk-return trade-offs, and sustainable growth strategies.
- Mentor teams in credit analytics, credit scoring, MIS, and data-driven underwriting.
Qualifications & Experience
· - Minimum 12–20 years of banking experience with hands-on Retail Credit Risk exposure.
- Experience across consumer lending products (Mortgage, Auto, Personal Loan, Credit Cards, SME Retail)
- Strong understanding of BB regulatory guidelines, Basel III, IFRS 9, internal controls, and stress testing.
- Demonstrated expertise in analytics, models, portfolio monitoring, and early-warning system
- Proven leadership capability to work cross-functionally with senior management, CRO, and business heads.
